As part of its mission to promote Irish American culture in the Sound Shore region, the committee will provide two $2,500 scholarships to students in the area of who have demonstrated a commitment to Irish culture and community.
Who’s eligible? Students, aged 16 to 22, residing in the Sound Shore community and/or attending schools located in the Sound Shore community. The Sound Shore community includes Harrison, Larchmont, Mamaroneck, New Rochelle, Pelham, Port Chester and Rye.
What are the requirements? Applicants must demonstrate active contribution to Irish community programs, Irish culture, and/or charitable organizations. They must also submit their parents’ or guardian’s most recent Income Tax Return (1040 Pages 1 & 2) or a Federal FAFSA Form completed in 2012, as well as a copy of their official high school transcript.
What’s the deadline for Applying? Interested applicants must mail their entry so that it’s postmarked no later than May 1, 2013. Incomplete applications will be automatically eliminated
What are the Terms of the Scholarship? The $2,500.00 grants are earmarked toward higher education expenses, including tuition, room and board, fees, books and supplies necessary for the pursuit of study at any accredited school, college, or other educational institution. Scholarships will apply to the 2013-14 academic year. Criteria for the awarding of these scholarships are based upon the applicant’s contribution to Irish community programs, Irish culture and charitable organizations, as well as the applicant’s financial need and scholastic standing.
When are the winners selected? Winners only will be notified following judging of the scholarship by May 1, 2013. Checks will be sent out by the Sound Shore St. Patrick’s Day Parade in late July. The scholarship winner shall notify the Sound Shore St. Patrick’s Day Parade 2013 Committee of acceptance or non-acceptance of the scholarship by June 1, 2013.
THE FOLLOWING MUST ACCOMPANY APPLICATION:
1. A copy of all work programs/community programs/Irish cultural activities
2. Two letters of recommendation: (from: principal or counselor of school, clergyman, professors and/or teachers, or an unrelated person knowing of applicant’s character).
3. A copy of official high school transcript.
4. A copy of Income Tax Form (1040 Pages 1 & 2) for 2010 or 2011, or a Federal FAFSA Form completed in 2012. Please blacken out Social Security numbers for privacy purposes.
